OUR MISSION
Following the example of Jesus, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) partners with local Nazarene congregations around the world to clothe, shelter, feed, heal, educate, and live in solidarity with those who suffer under oppression, injustice, violence, poverty, hunger, and disease. NCM exists in and through the Church of the Nazarene to proclaim the Gospel to all people in word and deed.

OUR APPROACH

Church-Led. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries exists in and through the church. NCM partners with local congregations, supporting them in their efforts to serve others, create change in their communities, and point people toward the love of God through Christ.

Holistic. Poverty is complex. A holistic approach to community development works toward physical, relational, and spiritual wholeness for individuals and communities.

Child-Focused.  Nazarene Compassionate Ministries works to enable children to become the people God created them to be. In order to accomplish this, we address children’s specific needs, such as stability, education, food, and clean water.

Community-Based. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries equips churches to work alongside community members to develop their own communities and address their own situations and challenges.

Transformational. The goal of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries’ work goes beyond community development projects and humanitarian assistance. Our goal is to see individual and communal transformation in and through Christ.

WHAT WE DO
Anti-Trafficking. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery that enables people to profit from the control and exploitation of others. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with local churches in anti-trafficking efforts like awareness campaigns, prevention efforts, and care for victims of trafficking.

Economic Development. NCM partners with local churches to equip individuals and families to interrupt the cycle of poverty—and to enable parents to provide for their children with God-given dignity—through job skills training, savings groups, small business support, and agricultural support.

Emergency Relief. When disaster strikes, the many of the world’s most vulnerable people don’t have safety nets; when homes and livelihoods are destroyed, there is often nowhere to go and no way to recover from the loss of income. NCM works with churches to care for the most vulnerable people in communities impacted by disasters. We emphasize long-term, holistic care addressing physical, economic, and spiritual needs.

Food Security. Hunger is the result of extreme poverty, and it keeps people stuck in poverty. NCM partners with local churches to provide long-term agricultural programs such as small-scale farming, animal husbandry, and fish farms, as well as nutrition education, to improve health and provide a source of income for families and individuals.

Health Care. Around the world, accessibility, stigma, and education continue to impact people’s health. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with clinics, hospitals, and community-based health care programs around the world to provide education, training, resources, and support for health care providers and communities in need of both physical and spiritual healing.

Holistic Child Development. Children are disproportionately impacted by poverty, which can stunt growth, hinder education, and make them more susceptible to illness and disease. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries’ child-focused programs are based on a Holistic Child Development model that seeks to simultaneously address key aspects of a child’s life—spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and relational. Thousands of children are supported through our child sponsorship program.

Refugee and Immigrant Support. Around the world, 82.4 million individuals have fled violence, persecution, extreme poverty, and increasing climate crises in their home countries. Those who flee often end up living in poverty, with insufficient food, clothing, and shelter. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with local churches around the world to support refugees and immigrants through education for children, assistance for persecuted Christians, emergency relief for families in crisis, and support for families who have been resettled.

Clean Water. Over 2 billion people around the world do not have access to clean and safe water at home. As a result, one of the leading causes of death in low-income communities is illness due to waterborne disease, lack of sanitation, and poor hygiene practices. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries partners with local churches to provide communities with safe water through the implementation of a comprehensive WASH program that includes water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.

Women and Girls Support. Gender inequality is both a major cause and effect of hunger and poverty, and nearly everywhere women and girls are disproportionately vulnerable to those effects. NCM partners with local churches around the world who are working to support women and their families through self-help groups and small business creation, vocational training, small-scale farming, literacy education, and other programs that help them see themselves as people who are valuable, capable, and equal because they are made in God’s image.
